In response to dontcallmekathy, no we're not measuring the speed of light. We are using light to measure a variety of things, but primarily distances and shapes. For example, one of our products will measure the 3D shape of any object, producing an accurate digitized 3D model of that object that may be analyzed or otherwise used in software on a computer.

Here is some more general guidance to help steer you towards entries we like.

A lot of the entries seem difficult to pronounce. We're looking for a name with a smooth or punchy pronunciation. Avoid word combinations where two vowel sounds are next to each other.

All of the "light" references (along with the various latin roots, etc.) can end up sounding very ephemeral. Try to balance this with something that conveys certainty or a solid foundation.

We are looking for something unique that customers will remember. The keywords in the brief represent concepts, but we don't necessarily want them (or portions of them) directly in the name. We're not totally against using these words, but are more looking for creative ways to convey these ideas or feelings.

We recognize that compound names are often necessary to find available domains, so secondary words like "Optics", "Technologies", or "Innovations" are ok, but the need a distinctive lead-in word. Another secondary word to consider is "Photonics".

Here are some other concepts to think about that relate to what we do: imaging, digitized reality, machine vision. Along with precision goes accuracy, truth, and exactness.

Are you measuring light, speed of light or can you clarify further what exactly is being measured and for what purpose?
I am not in the medical or science field, so if any submissions should need the words to be reversed, please let me know.

I got a message from a user alerting me to the points system associated with ratings. As the contest holder I want the ratings to serve my purposes, which are to a) encourage you all to submit ideas, and b) let you know what we like and don't like so you can come back with even better ideas. With that in mind, here is how we will use ratings on this contest:

One star: we'll try not to give any one-star ratings, so submit away. We'll only rate one star if entries appear to be blatant spam.

Two stars: Don't like it. Probably either boring or not relevant enough to our business. Please try again.

Three stars: Probably not something we would use, but we like some element of it. Will try to provide a comment with what aspects we like.

Four stars: Getting warm. Maybe possibly something we could see ourselves using. May still need tweaking.

Five stars: Short list of potential winners.

We'll try to provide timely ratings and feedback, but please be aware that there is more than one person involved in evaluating the entries, so it may take a day or so to provide feedback.

Try to go beyond mashups of the keywords I mentioned in the brief. We are looking for something memorable and distinctive. Combining general terms doesn't provide much punch. Think about how some of these concepts might be represented indirectly or metaphorically. Keep the entries coming!
