  • Detailed Brief
  • Hello everyone. I wish to launch an internet business to sell my artwork. I produce color prints onto wood veneer and, basically, my pictures consist of “marquetry-style” images sometimes combined with digitally painted oils or watercolors, and vice versa. I also wish to produce smaller versions of my veneer prints incorporated onto greetings cards. I don’t want to limit my wood pictures to just that, though: I’m tinkering with color and black-and-white photos, drawings and designs ... for the future.
Like much art, there may not be a specific demographic, so the name that I choose will appeal to as broad a range as possible. I’ve already investigated names like “wood-prints” (which is exactly right, but unimaginative) and “tabula” (Latin for painted panels). I would like a name to convey something arty, but not cheap, not digital (yes, it is digital – but “digital” sounds pixelated somehow); traditional but new; hand-made, not machine-made; some connotation of “real wood” might be nice but, above all, a name that people can remember. “BP” springs to mind.
The internet name will be the same as the branding (whether on artwork, greetings cards, etc), which should then carry a universal tagline. Looking forward!

  • AntiqueWoodDesigns / etc
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
The word "Antique" might apply more to me, but not my work.
  • ContemporaryWoodPrints / WoodArt
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
I think that "Contemporary" is probably a word more likely used and understood by art critics rather than normal people.
  • Artiquity / etc
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
Now, here's a word I like. It works really well in "ArtiquityPrints" and "ArtiquityWoodPrints", but "WorksofArtiquity" sounds exactly like something found, hidden in a Middle-eastern desert, and "PrintsofArtiquity" includes that marginally humourous "Printsof ..."

  • WoodArtMan / WoodArtArtist
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
"WoodArtArtist" looks strange with too many "Arts" in it; "WoodArtMan" could actually be a great brand name, except that it could sound a bit like one of those old-fashioned door-to-door salesmen ..... "Oh, it's the Wood Art Man again".
  • WoodDesignMaster / WoodDesignArtist
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
Yes, it's me again: I really think that people's perception of "Design" limits my abilities to just that. Like architects (I know, I already mentioned them), beyond the design - the drawing - there is no actual production, no further process.
  • OrnateWoodArt

Is it a picture-frame? Definitely something carved, though.
  • WoodArtMaster / WoodPrintMaster
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
Isn't English funny? "WoodArtMaster" is that teacher at school; "WoodPrintMaster", on the other hand, is an expert wood printer. It's quite good, I think.
  • MasterpieceArtistree

This is an interesting combination of words that have - separately - popped up before. I quite like this, but is it too long? or does it have too many syllables? Not sure.

  • WoodArtCharm / Charms
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
"Charm" is such a lovely word - one that I use often in its normal context and meaning. "WoodArtCharm/s" seems, nevertheless, like a bracelet ... to me.
  • woodishPrints / woodishArtPrints

Don't these both sound like they might, possibly, be wood? but are probably another material, like plastic?
  • WoodDesignsFolder / Portfolio / Array etc.
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
Using these words - folder, portfolio, array, library - seems to me to make my subject a fixed thing, like a "folder" in the stationery store.
  • WoodPrintTalent / WoodArtTalent
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
"Talent", I feel, is yet another of those words that's been permanently scarred by "contest". In any case, it wouldn't be right for me to advertise "my talent"!
  • ArtWoodDesigner
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
Yes, I do design things; I just don't want people to think that it's all I do. "Designer", I decided, was a bit like an architect.
  • Woodique

  • PrintWoodVector / ArtWoodVector / etc
  • 1 years ago
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
I use bother "vector" and "raster" in my work, as well as a pencil. I think that the words are method-based rather than a "atyle" to enjoy.
  • WoodsOutlet / ArtWoodOutlet / etc
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
I'm afraid that "Outlet" is one of those words, hijacked to refer to a cut-price store selling goods that manufacturers can't otherwise get rid of.
  • WoodArtswork
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
"WoodArts" (plural) is subtly different. The difficulty in adding "work" - which would be perfectly acceptable - is that the three words together LOOK like "Wood - Art - Swork" to me.
  • WoodBlockEdition / WoodBlockArtists
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
"WoodBlock" is very specific: you'd expect something Japanese or, possibly, medieaval. "Edition", on the other hand, could suggest "limited" or "special". Neither name quite rolls off the tongue, I feel.
  • MasterPrintWoods / MasterPrintArt

  • WoodPrintCollection

  • ArborExpressions / ArborWoodPrints

"Arbor" is a nice word for tree but, these days, I think it's commonly used for a structure in the garden.
  • WoodPerfectPrints / WoodPerfectArt

The are both "perfect", but missing something .... what is it? uniqueness? or passion?
  • MasterPieceVeneers / WoodPiecePrints

These sound to me like real, hand-made marquetry. "MasterPieceVeneers" would be so good.
  • MasterPrintWood.com - Marquet-styled wood prints
  • 1 years ago
  • Posted by : lexisdomains
In doing some research, I found that this phrase relates to an early wood art technique called 'Old master print'. The earliest print images are mostly of a high artistic standard, and were clearly designed by artists with a background in painting (on walls, panels or manuscripts). Whether these artists cut the blocks themselves, or only inked the design on the block for another to carve, is not known.
  • WoodPerfectPrints.com - Artistic Wood Prints

I think this name carries the connotation of marquet-styled wood arts including but not limited to: wood art prints, logo-style prints, monochrome prints, etc

  • TrojanWoodArt

"Trojan" relates directly to the wooden horse and, because of that, I feel that the name automatically falls into "carving" or, at least, 3D.

the purpose to show availability of domains was that, something people write word "s" or without "s" so if you have both domain it good for site.. my Site name end with the word "shots" but sometime people just write "shot" which is a parked domain by someone else.. so it sometimes confuse my regular visitors...

    another exmaple.. webshot.com

  • TYPES of WOOD that I use
  • Posted by : firefly (Contest Holder)
I'm sorry, I thought I had mentioned this a while back. Imagine printing a colour picture onto a piece of white paper ... all the light areas are actually mostly the white paper. Exactly the same with my wood, only - at this moment - I can only use the lighter woods available to me, which are MAPLE and BIRCH. (I plan to use darker woods, but this will require changes in my art.) Does that help?

I was trying to remember that you wanted a brand name. No more wood, tabula, etc. Will try to focus on the word ART and a fancy word to illustrate with it. Thanks for the feedback. It is helpful.
