  • Detailed Brief
  • I'm looking for a new tag line for my existing online consignment/liquidation business (online auctions such as eBay, eCrate...ect). I sell for people looking to sell either a few items or a household estate and/or private collections (on a contract/consignment basis). I also sell existing merchandise for businesses that have excess surplus or are closing down. My clientele runs the gamut from ordinary citizens to wealthy individuals who prefer to remain private and won't come to a storefront to do business (typically middle to upper class clientele)

The name of my business is "The Auction Dog" and my current tag line is "Digging up deals and burying the competition". After listening to many of my customers, I have realized that this tag line does NOT accurately represent what my core mission is to my target audience.

While I do auction off items that were consigned to me to other people online (the buyers), the "buyers" really aren't my target audience. The "buyers" know my reputation online and aren't concerned with contracting or consigning items to me, they are only concerned with what I am currently selling. They could care less about my company name, logo or tag line as they really only want to know if I'm auctioning quality items and that my business practices are honest and trustworthy. These are things they can see for themselves by simply looking at my feedback on the sites I sell on. To be honest, they wouldn't care if I had a logo or tag line as long as I had something to sell (auction off).

On the other hand, my target audience are the people who are looking to utilize my services to auction items online for them. When I look at my current tag line, I do not see it accurately representing or describing exactly what I can do for or offer to my target audience. I'm certainly not "digging" up any deals for my target audience, I'm offering them a way to sell unwanted items without having to do any of the heavy lifting (eg: researching the item for profitability, taking photos, writing descriptions, handling the auction and buyer questions, invoicing, packing and shipping the item) and then they receive a healthy profit after the sale(after I take out my reasonable commission).

My current tag line is a great way to describe one side of my services to the buyers(digging up deals for them), but they aren't the ones who supply me with the business nor the inventory to auction in the first place.

My tag line needs to appeal to the people bringing me items to auction online for them. If one of these future clients came to my website and the first thing they saw was "Digging up deals and burying the competition", they would get the idea that I was trying to sell TO them and not FOR them. I would lose a new client before I even gained them.

I just want a new tag line that fits in well with my company name/mission and and also tells my core audience what benefits I can offer them if they use my services (eg: bring their items to me to be auctioned online, I do ALL of the work and then they receive a nice profit after the sale).

I'm not looking for anything cartoonish or silly. It should be strong, to the point, professional sounding and it should engender trust and confidence. After all, my clients place their expensive belongings into my care, trust me to get the best price and to pay them when the auction is over. Ideally it would be a play on words that are associated with dogs and working/selling for my clients.
