- YouTube is awesome, but finding great videos on a specific topic can be tough. We also think video content is better when you watch with other people who share your interests and can chat. We are building a social video platform that will allow people with shared interests to watch videos together in real-time while chatting with one another. Users log into the site and either enter or create a “room” based on any topic- from cajun cooking to stand-up comedy to funny Japanese cats. Inside a room, visitors can either play videos (taking turns with others in the room) or just sit back and watch what others are playing on a topic. There will be light elements of gaming involved allowing users to earn points when other viewers "like" a video selection. We plan to build a visual universe around the experience that includes avatars. As you earn points for playing awesome videos, you’ll be able to upgrade your avatar to look cooler. Naming requirements include: must be evocative of watching (video, tv, or entertainment), must evoke social, must be catchy/easy to remember, should be fun/clever, and ideally will be illustrative. Most of our favorite ideas suggest a place, like “showbox” (not available) and “vodville,” which suggests “Video On Demand”(VOD), vaudeville (entertainment/variety), and “ville,” a place. This is also unavailable for a variety of reasons (one of which includes Zynga’s aggressive protection of the word “ville” as it relates to anything having to do with games.
