Use these 5 tested strategies to develop a great name for your business, brand, startup, product, or just about anything else.
Start with research. Take inventory of what others in the space are doing. Think of some names that fit into the industry and others that stand out.
2) Search for words and phrases
Use Google and other online tools to develop a list of relevant powerful words, emotional words, short common words, experiential words, descriptive words, metaphoric words, similar words (thesaurus), benefits, lingo and slang, onomatopoeia, etc.
3) Build an Inspiration Deck
4) Brainstorm Styles and Types
Think of names that fit each of the five Name Styles and fourteen Name Types. Don’t be afraid to write down whatever comes to mind. Censoring your brainstorming is the easiest way to shut down your creativity. You can sort out the names you love later.
5) Just keep moving
The key to name development is keeping the process positive and fun. Explore a few ideas at a time, then step back–take a break. Keep trying different brainstorming approaches (like these), and continue to build a list of name ideas.
